Tongariro river update. Sun 21st April, 2013

Thanks to Tongariro regular Glenn Good for the following update and to Terry Trout for some of the images taken earlier in the week.
I fished on Thursday after noon up at the Kamahi for just one touch, the Breakfast Pool and the Blue pool for zip.
The river was pretty colored up and you could only just see your feet at knee deep. I tried a big glowie on the edges but no luck.
On Friday I fished the Waimarino river mouth first thing for one really nice fat jack but gave up after two and a half hours of bugger all else.
I managed to get one from the head of Boulder Reach and then shot up to the Duchess where I had a ball. Landed three really nice 3-4 lb rainbows and lost another two before finishing on a personal best brown jack of 7-8 lb { he wouldn’t sit still on the scales } that was released after weighing. But then had to retire because of leaky waders.
Back to the Duchess on Saturday morning in the dark and the rain all amped and ready for action ... zip ... not a touch so finished up with a mid stream release and one landed at the Cicada pool. Tried the Stag but nothing doing.
Cant wait to get down again with a bit more rain on the way.
Will be eagerly awaiting your reports and we'll catch up for an ale or two.

Cheers
Glenn Good |
