Thinking about it I could have changed the date on the last few reports and kept posting the same one. Nothing has changed and you just can't miss on the Tongariro at the moment.

With plenty of hungry kelts in the river and more fish continuing to move up, everything is working, and most anglers are enjoying some great sport.

I had a session with Glenn Goode and we hit fish from town to Boulder Reach. I think I may even have converted him to czech nymphing, despite his initial reluctance to try it.

When Sean and his dad came down for the weekend it was the same story, and again we had no trouble hooking up.

They did particularly well Sunday morning on the lower river as more runs went through.

So ... its the "same ole same ole". I'll let the pictures tell the tale.
The last few weeks I don't think I ever remember seeing such good mayfly hatches on the river...most of the time these tend to be short lived affairs on the Tongariro.

But some days there have been duns trickling downstream for hours ... which hasn't gone unnoticed by the birds or the fish.

Occasionally a fish will make a grab for the indicator fly but its early for "the dry". And during a hatch most of the action is still taking place below the surface.

The Little Brown Bug or any small "chocolatey brown" nymph should do the trick. But you'll catch plenty of kelts using them.

One fly I'm never without nowadays are the lively leg nymphs I started using a few months back.

These are becoming my go to fly tied off the bomb ... that's when I've got some left after my mates have been raiding my fly box. I had a dozen tied up before the weekend ... they left me with two!

The Lively Leg website has several easy to follow tying tutorials available. I've uploaded one of them at the end of this report.

Give them a try, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Not too many anglers around and most look to be concentrating on the upper and lower river.

At present we've probably got the best spread of fish through the Tongariro that we've had for some time and everywhere is "fishing".

The flows are still over the thirty mark and this will continue to encourage fish to move up.

Some good runs went though the lower river over the weekend and I'm looking forward to a lengthy session tomorrow.

Another trough expected to move across the country midweek with more rain and showers forecast for the central North Island.

I think we're in for some more great fishing on the river ... I know where I'll be for the rest of the week.

See you out there.

Tight lines

Mike

Hi Mike,

Mate where can I get a hold of some Lively Legz for tying here in Taupo?

Cheers Jerry
