Magic May ... but its November?

| I don't think many would argue that so far this year there has been a marked improvement in both the quality and quantity of fish caught in the Tongariro. Last Sunday I stood on the swing bridge above Red Hut with some holiday-makers and watched a steady trickle of migrating fish slowly file past in the pool below. The last few years had seen a gradual decline in the numbers of fish using the upper stretches. But this time around during the annual runs they seem to have been more evenly distributed throughout the river. It's a bit too early to tell and I'm no scientist but could the destructio ... |
