Tongariro River below Poutu Intake 2021 Recreational Releases :
Flows of 30 cubic metres per second for 6 hours will be released from Poutu Intake into the Tongariro River between 9am and 3pm on the following dates:
* Saturday 20th February 2021
* Saturday10th April 2021
* Saturday 25th September 2021

| This week we'll return to the subject I started a couple of weeks ago before I got side-tracked by those lovely fat silver rainbows that ran the river ... learning from our mistakes. I've noticed that whether your a beginner or a first time visitor to the Tongariro when we start fishing this river most of us tend to make the same bad calls. Looking back I was in the same boat as everyone else and didn't have a clue ! Last time we looked at " concrete feet syndrome " which is a fairly common one and will not only cost you fish but the good will of other anglers. Unless of course your a devotee ... |

When the Tongariro Power Developement Scheme was completed in the 1970's it wasn't long before upstream nymphing became one of the most popular and productive methods used on the Tongariro. Recently there has been a resurgence in the popularity of lures and wet-lines but most anglers still prefer the the indicator, bomb and nymph.
